Although there had been little communication from the Chinese regarding Longbridge, those close to the company's management remained confident that the factory would spring back to life. Then, along with last week's Oklahoma announcement came the confirmation everyone was expecting - Longbridge would once again reverberate to the sound of car production. Nanjing Automotive Corporation intends to turn MG into a global brand, and not only will cars be built in volume in China, but also in smaller numbers in Oklahoma - and Longbridge. the MG brand, which it is repackaging as the "Modern Gentleman" .new factory in China is going up at a lightning pace, and Longbridge's former production lines are ready to go in.The MG 7Z (formerly ZT) will be built over there - Chinese-built parts are already coming back to the UK to furnish depleted parts warehouses - in a brand-new facility, based a few miles from the centre of Nanjing city. The company has set itself a tough deadline to get full-scale production under way, as it wants new MG saloons to start rolling off the production line by Nanjing's 60th birthday, next April.
An intriguing three-pronged attack on the world's car markets was confirmed last week - and much to everyone's amazement, Nanjing announced that a brand-new production facility in the United States would be a kingpin in its ambitions to make MG a global player .A coupé version of the TF convertible will be produced in Ardmore Airpark in south-central Oklahoma City, by MG Motors North America/Europe Corp.

The MGA and MGB were the best-selling imported sports cars in America, the automotive counterpart to the British Invasion in music . In the 60's and 70's, the majority of the cars produced - 100,000 MGA's and more than a half-million MGB's - came to the United States. MG's were last sold United States in 1980.

The MGB was launched in September 1962 as the successor of the MGA. In place of the MGA’s separate chassis was MG’s first unitary body shell  which made the car stiffer than other contemporary sports cars, Not only was the MGB well received by the press at its introduction, it also soon became the fastest selling MG of all time. 1974 saw the most important changes in the B’s styling with the appearance
of the controversial rubber bumpers needed to meet American 5mph crash tests.  In all 512243 MGBs were built (386961 being roadsters and 125282 GTs) making  the MGB the most successful sports car of all time.

Kimber was a car enthusiast who had already worked for several companies in the motor industry. He was particularly keen on sports cars, and had considerable design flair, able to produce eye catching body styles. He had also accumulated solid experience in engineering, factory management, and the commercial and business side of the motor trade. It was Kimber’s idea to begin to produce a line of special bodied cars on Morris chassis.MG name was, as Kimber later pointed out, given as a compliment to Lord Nuffield, taking the initials of his first business – Morris Garages - to form the inspiration for this great automotive brand. Importantly the initials were taken to form MG, not, as some naturally presume, to stand as an abbreviation for it. In 1926, MG to move yet again to a bigger factory. At the end of 1929, MG took over part of the Pavlova Leather Company’s factory at Abingdon on Thames a few miles south of Oxford, destined to be MG’s home for the next fifty years. The MG Car Company Limited was formally established, with William Morris as the main shareholder and governing director, while Kimber became managing director.
The representative declined to mention any individual names or types of applicants. But a statement from Chapman Automotive Ltd., a Rayleigh, England-based vehicle design and development consulting firm, said it is in the final stages of putting together a bid to purchase MG assets from the administrators. The statement said financing for the bid, which would cover only the MG brand, the TF two-seater sports car and associated manufacturing equipment, is supported by a consortium of investors including an overseas vehicle manufacturer, a U.S.-based investment fund and a wealthy entrepreneur. Chapman made it clear it was interested in no other model from either the Rover brand or other MG models and would move production from the existing Longbridge plant to another factory. But it said it could restart operations later this year with sales through a revived dealer network in the U.K., Europe and other right-hand-drive markets. A return to the U.S. market is predicted within the medium term. A spokesman declined to give any further details for the moment or to hint at the identity of Chapman Auto motive's  backers. Another reported bid comes from former MG Rover executives, led by Fraser Welford-Winton, onetime CEO of Rover engine maker Powertrain Ltd. Welford-Winton could not be reached for comment Friday, but a report in the Financial Times said the group was hoping to acquire MG, with enough finance to last into next year and develop new models. It also planned to revive the prestige sports marque Austin Healy, last built at the end of the 1960s.

Nanjing chairman Wang Haoliang was cited by Xinhua as saying the Chinese car maker planned to roll out its first locally made MG ZT sedan in the first half of 2007 based on the acquired technology.

Tuesday, 9 May 2000 – MG and Rover brands returned to independent British ownership, with production, engineering, sales and marketing centred at Longbridge, Birmingham. Production of the new TF commenced with a *101 VIN after the company’s Longbridge telephone number (0121 475 2101) tradition. The 1,500,000th MG, a Golden Jubliee celebration special TF 160 was produced on 16 April 2002. The most famous MGC customer was HRH Prince Charles, who took delivery of his GT in 1969 (SGY 766F), which he passed down to Prince William. The 1,000,000th was built in October 1975 - a unique LHD MGB roadster finished in Brooklands Green, with Jubilee GT livery and wheels. The first Longbridge built MG was the MG 1100/1300 family in 1962.

CAR PRODUCTION is set to resume at Longbridge after MG new owners announced its plans to work with UK designers to build a new range of cars.Nanjing Automobile Group is set to link up with the GB Sports Car Company to manufacture a proposed 80,000 new cars every year. Work on new models could begin next summer and could include a new MG roadster and a revival of the popular MG Midget, as reported by the Standard last month.
Nanjing paid about £60million for MG last month which raised hopes of 2,000 jobs at Longbridge. Reports in the West Midlands media suggest the GB Sports Car Company would start recruiting shortly in areas such as plant layout, planning, car design and development. The company was part of the British-led Project Kimber consortium which lost out to Nanjing in the bidding process for the remaining assets of MG .Their proposals to buy the MG-TF and all the assets of the sportscar manufacturer were rejected by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).GB Sports Car Company is headed by Fraser Welford-Winton, the former managing director of MG engine division Powertrain. Mr Welford-Winton said: "I am delighted to be at the heart of the development and implementation of a business plan that will produce long-term skilled jobs at Longbridge and create a centre of excellence for sports car activities for which the UK is world renowned." Both companies are in discussion on potential models to be built at designed and developed for manufacture at Longbridge. robert.
